Russia and Mozambique discuss direct flights, Nacala may be the first destination
Mozambique's Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Jorge Matlombe, named the northern city as a possible starting point for the service.
Russia and Mozambique are discussing the launch of direct air services, Russian business daily Kommersant reports. The flights could start with Nacala, a city in the north of the African country.
Matlombe told RIA Novosti, a Russian state news agency, that the service could begin with Nacala. The report does not name other Mozambican cities or any Russian airports.
The minister did not give a launch date, an airline or an aircraft type. It is also unclear whether the flights will carry cargo: the report does not say whether they will be passenger or cargo services. It does not mention any signed agreements either. The two sides are still negotiating.
AWB Daily previously reported: Russia ready to consider applications from airlines of all African countries to operate flights
