According to logirus.ru, there is a proposal to use road cameras to check whether lorries are travelling with electronic transport documents, the paperless shipping documents used in Russia. The pilot would take place in Tatarstan, a Russian republic in the Volga region. The source does not say who made the proposal or when the pilot would start.

The source does not explain how the cameras would connect to the electronic transport documents system, what exactly they would verify or what cargo data an inspector would receive.

GIS EPD, the Russian state information system for electronic transport documents, already covers road, rail and air transport. Sea and river transport are not yet connected to it, but pilot projects are under way in both. According to the source, electronic transport documents will become mandatory for these modes in a year or two. It does not say whether this timetable has been approved or from what date it runs. The source gives two reasons why sea transport is joining later: maritime shipping has its own rules, and document formats in Russia differ from those abroad. It does not say which rules are the obstacle, and it gives no reason for river transport.
